General features

RTAPLS is a software product for the processing and visualization of process data in process control systems. Its main areas of application are complex, continuous processes in the chemical industry as well as in energy production and distribution.

The essential information units of such systems are process variables (PVs).

These and all RTAPLS objects are kept in the Real Time Database (RtDb) and reside in the storage. The RtDb can be distributed over many computers by means of replication. With this feature, RTAPLS objects are distributed objects like the PVs. These objects are stored permanently (optional in ORACLE DB) on the servers. To that extent the RTAPLS data model can be called relational. Basically, there are 3 types of PVs: analog, binary (up to 16 bit) and textual ones.

Typical RTAPLS installations contain 10,000 to 100,000 process variables and process many thousands of process data changes per second.

Based on tried and proven technology, the latest software technologies and standards are integrated continuously into RTAPLS so that online data are available enterprise wide and in the office world with the help of the latest data access technologies and tools.

RTAPLS has multi-platform capability, i.e., it is available on the following platforms: UNIX/LINUX, VMS and Microsoft Windows. Even heterogeneous configurations (UNIX- or VMS-server and Microsoft Windows clients) are possible.

If one computer breaks down, the remaining computers continue to provide all the functions of the failed computer without any limitations or restrictions.

RTAPLS can be configured online, i.e., without interrupting the ongoing operation of the system.

RTAPLS provides extensive diagnostic tools that can indicate and analyze the state of the system and error situations, etc.
